Need To Get Satellite Internet? 4 Tips For Maximizing A Reliable Connection

Blog

If you enjoy living in the country, you may have bought a home in a rural area. Living in a rural region may lead to only finding satellite internet providers that can service your home. Before going through the process of picking an internet plan and having a professional come over for installation, you should consider all the things that can improve the reliability of your connection.

Satellite Installation

An important part of satellite internet is where the satellite is installed on your property. For instance, you do not want the satellite to be blocked by trees in your yard. While the highest point of your roof may seem like the best place to set up a satellite, you may want to prioritize one side of the roof when you know that your tallest trees are on one side of the property.

Another reason for installing a satellite away from your trees is that you will not have to worry about being so consistent with tree trimming to keep branches from blocking the connection.

Wired Connection

When you get the modem set up in your home, you will need to pick a location in your home. While you can operate a wireless connection from anywhere by using a router, you should consider setting up the modem in an area where you can use several wired connections.

Getting internet directly from the modem will give you a more reliable connection. Using several laptops and desktops where your modem is located will make it easy to get a wired connection for all these devices as opposed to using a Wi-Fi adapter for a wireless connection.

Router Setup

Where you hook up your modem is likely where you will put the router to avoid running long cables around your home. The router's location is crucial because you want to avoid a situation in which the router is at one of end of the home and you want to use internet on the other end. Finding a place near the center of your home is ideal for getting a consistent wireless connection.

Time Usage

When you look at satellite internet plans, you may come across some where internet usage does not count during certain off-peak hours. This is ideal because you can use these hours to take care of all your biggest downloads to avoid exceeding your data cap every month. Even though your internet may work after exceeding the cap, your connection may have a noticeable slowdown.

Following these tips will help you enjoy dependable internet with a satellite connection.

Don't Be Afraid to Change Your Internet Package

I recently switched my internet service provider. Once I switched, I was very happy with the speed and service. The internet moved so fast for me that I was on it playing games and messaging friends a lot more than usual. What I forgot was that I chose my internet package based on my past monthly use of the internet, which was low simply because our old service was so slow I didn't like using it much. I chose a package that was limited, and I realized my mistake when I used up all my plan data in just two weeks. Thankfully, my new provider allowed me to switch to unlimited mid-month. I created this blog to remind others to always keep an eye on their internet usage if on a restricted plan and call your provider if you need to change it.
